Keep this Speyburn 10 Year on hand — It's a perfect start to an upscale Rob Roy. #whiskinfo
First Look: "Light gold in color"
Nose: “Citrus fruit, summer flowers, fig, oaky vanilla, and smoke.”
The fresh and crisp nose is laden with citrus fruit and light summer flowers, while giving way to a nice scent of fig, oaky vanilla and rounding out with a soft touch of smoke.
Palate: “Light spice, fruit, creamy vanilla, tannin, and smoky butterscotch.”
The entry has a nice touch of light spice that is met with a pleasant pop of fruit which cools it down. After the fruity flavors calm the spice, creamy vanilla emerges and a bit of tannin hits the mid palate. Smoky butterscotch brings it all together for a rich mouth feel.
Finish: "Long and sweet with a hint of smoke and fruit."
Fair Trade: $30
Verdict: At $23, I had to give this little 10-year-old Highland Single Malt 3+ stars.
Speyburn did a great job putting out an affordable 10 year old that deserves a spot in your whisk(e)y cabinet. You may have walked by this one a hundred times without picking it up, I know, because I did.
