Jefferson’s Reserve Groth Reserve Cask Finish
First Look: “Deep amber in color with a very light clear hue.”
Nose: “Poached peaches, caramel, toffee, light spice, dried plum, and dark fruit.”
Caramel and toffee meld together with a touch of spice. The poached peach is light but present, while dried plum and dark fruit round out the nose.
Palate: “A touch of rye spice, tannin, caramel, oak, cereal grain and dark dried fruit.”
Rye spice initially coats the palate and is followed by creamy caramel and oak. Tannin tingles the mid palate while the cereal grain and dried fruit mingle together rounding out the palate.
Finish: The finish here is long and showcases caramel, tannin and a touch of sweet tobacco.
Fair Trade: $80
Verdict: This Cask Finished KSBW is another triumph for Jefferson’s. I found the Groth Reserve for $72 and think that’s a fair price. Depending on your area, it might retail up to $90. If that’s the case, hit your local watering hole before doling out the $90. Good job, Trey! Keep up the good work.
