Isle of Jura Diurachs' Own 16 Year Old Single Malt Scotch
First Look: “Beautiful golden amber.”
Nose: “Fruity honey, vanilla, lily flower, sea salt, fresh almond and a touch of toffee with an underlying hint of oak.”
The fruity honey leads the charge as the lily, sea salt and almond frame the nose, and the toffee, vanilla and sweet oak are the backdrop.
Palate: “Sweet fruity honey, soft elegant golden raisins, creamy marzipan, and dried orange zest shower the mid palate framed by spice and oak.”
On the entry, the sweet fruity honey and golden raisins cradle the palate; while the creamy marzipan and dried orange zest mingle with light spicy oak to create an elegant flavor profile.
Finish: The finish is intermittent; popping between floral notes, sweet honey and spice with an evolving fade of toffee, which lasts for several minutes.
Fair Trade: $70
Verdict: You’ll want to try this one before buying. At an average price of $70, it’s a bit out of its price range in my opinion. The whisky is soft, floral and complex; but, at this price point, you should definitely sample it at your local whisky bar prior to purchase.
