Willett Small Batch 2 Years Old Straight Rye Whiskey (108.1 Proof)
First Look: “Beautiful gold with a slight copper shade and a nice, long clear hue.”
Nose: “Spicy caramel, cinnamon, orange, cereal grain and a hint of honey.”
Spicy caramel and cinnamon jump from the glass while orange zest, honey and cereal grain come together to a nice sweet note for an explosive nose.
Palate: “Rich and creamy spice, caramel, orange zest, cinnamon candy, cereal grain…”
The entry is powerful. It shows a rich and creamy spice note that melds into warm caramel, cinnamon candy and cereal grain bursting with a bright pop of orange zest.
Finish: The finish is long, rich, complex, and bold.
Fair Trade: $50
Verdict: This two year old rye is amongst the first family-distilled whiskey to be produced on the property in 35+ years. It’s a great effort and choice for their first release. This rye is remarkably complex. If blind tasted, I doubt anyone could guess its age. This is a great buy at $40, but you may pay up to $55 depending on your location. Since Willett did such a great job putting together this small batch rye, I’m patiently waiting for a bourbon release!
