Elijah Craig 23 Year Old Single Barrel KSBW
First Look: "...Gorgeous deep amber in color..."
Nose: "...Spice, sawdust, cinnamon, orange zest, a touch of sweet vanilla, and underlying tones of varnish..." Spice and sawdust jump from the glass. With a second sniff, cinnamon and orange zest creep through with vanilla backing it up. Then, several very light tones of varnish emerge.
Palate: At first, EC23 hits the back of the throat with spice and heat, but quickly softens into toffee, cinnamon, subtle tannin, vanilla, and caramel. The spice hits you first. But it's not the main component; it gets overpowered by toffee and vanilla with a touch of cinnamon, caramel, and a quick bite of subtle tannin.
Finish: The finish is long and round with a rich creamy mouth feel.
Fair Trade: $190
Verdict: Excellent and, at $200, it is definitely worth the money. Many people have said they get too much wood but I’m not getting as much as I thought I would with a 23 year old. EC23 is beautifully balanced. I spent my money on it and I would do it again.
Pro tip: Don’t overpay. This should never sell for more than U.S. $230, no matter what your local retailer tells you.
