Duncan Taylor Black Bull 12 Year Old (100 Proof)
First Look: "...Stunning amber color with a noticeable hue..."
Nose: The alcohol hits first while spicy malt, caramel apple, vanilla, and a hint of creamy toffee develop and waft from the glass. The toffee shows up late but dominates the nose after a few minutes in the glass;. The alcohol becomes muted by spicy malt and caramel apple. The vanilla and creamy toffee bring up the rear.
Palate: It's surprisingly soft, given the 100 proof. The heat is on the edge of the palate but the caramel apple and toffee tone it down a bit. Spicy malt hits the mid-palate with nice vanilla and shortbread.
Finish: The finish here is long, lingering and monstrous, which I personally like.
Fair Trade: $50
Verdict: You can find this at your local hot spot for $49-$58. I paid $52 and will be picking another one up when it runs out. This is a solid buy and you should definitely have this in your bar.
