Jameson Irish Whiskey Caskmates Stout Edition
This Jameson Caskmates Stout Edition embodies the idea of a stout cask finish whiskey, but it could have benefited from a longer finish.
First Look: “Bright golden amber in color with a slight clear hue.”
Nose: “Green apple, Asian pear, butterscotch, mocha, and a touch of orange zest.”
Green apple and Asian pear burst from the glass followed by soft butterscotch, mocha, and a touch of orange zest which brings a vibrant note to the deeply layered nose.
Palate: “Sweet caramel, a touch of lemon zest, oats, cocoa, oak, and a nice touch of cold brew coffee.”
The entry showcases sweet caramel with an undertone of lemon zest, oats and cocoa. The oak is light but detectable and plays well with the refreshing flavor of cold brewed coffee.
Finish: The finish is long, creamy, and smooth.
Fair Trade: $36
Verdict: Jameson put forth a good effort here — I definitely think this is a solid whiskey.
However, I was a bit disappointed that the Stout does not play a larger role in the flavor profile. I’m not sure how long they finished the whiskey in cask but, in my opinion, they could have left it a bit longer.
