Bushmills 10 Year Old Single Malt Irish Whiskey
First Look: “Pale gold in color.”
Nose: “Fruit, honey, dried wood, a touch of vanilla, spice, and cocoa.”
The fruit and honey lead to a soft and dry woody component with undertones of vanilla and cocoa. A nice hint of spice rounds out the nose.
Palate: “Honeydew, soft oak tannin, a touch of dark dried fruit from the Oloroso Sherry Cask, sweet grain, and underlying tones of mocha.”
It’s light and crisp with a touch of tannin on the mid palate. The Oloroso Cask brings a nice hint of dark fruit. Soft honeydew and sweet grain come together with mocha to round out the rich palate.
Finish: The finish is a touch too sweet with lingering notes of cocoa on the back palate.
Fair trade: $30
Verdict: Bushmills 10 Year Old is very good but, unfortunately, it’s overpriced at $40+. I picked it up for $34 during a sale and still think that’s a bit high. Don’t get me wrong. This is a great Irish Whiskey, but it would be amazing in the $25-$30 range; hence the lowered rating. If you find this Bushmills between $25-$30, don’t hesitate to grab a bottle.
